As With Everyday, This Day Began the Same; With a Sunrise

For the installation; As With Everyday, This Day Began the Same; With a Sunrise, the audience are guided through a handful of specific points from a 10,000 year history. The work includes the story of Cheddar Man, his genetic link to history teacher Adrian Target, and recent scientific discoveries. The derivation and use of specific materials such as the 152,000,000 million year old Portland Stone and the 9 year cycle of Portuguese Cork Oaks. The history of the Luddite movement and a fabulated Biocentric future for Earth and all its species.

  • My work seeks to make manifest the space we live in as a mass of interconnected, cyclical and enmeshed materials and ideas between all living and non living things. Taking the form of storytelling through installations of video, sound, narration and sculpture, walking tours and performative lectures the works take the audience on a guided journey through different times, places and events, from the very ancient, to right now. 

    I am interested in the precise moment things occur; the event of their making or manifestation, or a rupture where a change takes place. The ability for language and sound to take us elsewhere; to an imagined other or actual place and time. The increasingly rapid and constantly changing entropic nature of the space and time we are living through. That all history is a narrative that is constantly being re-written with every new discovery made. That the entirety of the worlds past is manifest in every person, every object, and every space, underpinned by everything and everyone that came before us. That real truth is ambiguous.
