Major project:

First Bite Cafe

“Feeding 9 billion by 2050”

Building the future generation of insect eaters to alleviate the tax on the environment caused by meat production and consumption.  By engaging the eating habits of today's children we can begin to address the heightened food insecurity of 2050 and the strain on earth's resources today.

First Bite Cafe is a unique eating/cooking experience for children and their parents. This product service system is specifically designed for children to experience their first bite of edible insects through the act of co-production with their parents. The project is comprised of narrative, cooking tools, and recipes. Children are inducted into the use of the tools through a fictional story told around the experience of "the first bite". The children are invited to be part of the story and interact with the tools and engage with the insects as a common food ingredient. At the end of the story and workshop the participants take home a copy of the storybook that captures their first time experience and includes the recipes for further reproduction at home.

Info

  • Design is culture-making. As a product and strategic designer I am interested in the role that design can take in challenging assumptions and established ways of production and living.  Especially focused on product service systems that involve positive behavioral change to alleviate environmental impact and lead people to live in a sustainable way.  Design is a tool for empowerment and I am keen in exploring the different facets of society in which it can be used to uplift and bring balance.
