Major project:

Gandia Chair

This project is an exploration on the unexploited properties of the rattan cane and its utilization in dynamic furniture applications.

The Gandia dynamic chair is a response to a demand for a less technical office furniture which blends within the habitat, born out of the blurring between home and work environments. The warmth of rattan and the embracing shapes evoke a relaxed feel-at-home mood, while the innovative connections and material processing support the dynamic nature of sitting, in order to avoid stress and tension much associated with long working hours.

With this project I intend to challenge how rattan furniture can look, behave and feel, with the goal of giving more opportunities to the manufacturer by opening doors to new markets, those where quality and good design are equally appreciated, and also to support the preservation of this craft and the continuity of rattan furniture factories.
