Major project:

Extramuros

My final project, Extramuros, shows the model of a typical European city’s regeneration and possible division through the display of a visual identity, using design to explore the ownership of a contemporary city's image and vision. The project discusses the ideologies, narratives and material effects involved in the re-imagining of place, using the ephemera associated with a city's visual iconography – monuments, souvenirs, logos and postcards – as well as collateral such as newspapers and posters.

Info

  • My work combines designs for cultural clients and collaborators with forms of research. This has taken the form of books, posters and printed matter, interviews, exhibitions, interactive work, identities, workshops, lectures and the organisation of symposiums.

My thesis and recent research has applied strands of 'new materialism' to design, influencing my approach and understanding of visual communication. This – as well as a fascination with the politics of aesthetics – has driven my involvement with the student-led forum Red Tape and also led to Extramuros, a research project investigating the symbiotic relationship between image and the urban environment.
