Dissertation:

THIS IS ART WRITING

This work examines the contemporary phenomenon of Art Writing, specifically within the UK, and relates it to the development of the contemporary art institutions sector and current trends in contemporary curating.

This thesis proposes that art writing can withstand critical assessment as a structured visual art form with the appropriate foundations from an evolving exhibition network.

This research is the only extended examination of Art Writing and features primary research, opinion, evaluation, and interviews with curators and directors from institutions including Whitechapel Gallery, Serpentine Gallery, Tate Britain, Nottingham Contemporary, The Showroom, MK Gallery, and Liverpool Biennial, among others, and with artists and writers including Maria Fusco, Stewart Home, and Brian Dillon.
