Helen Hamlyn Design Award for Creativity
Helen Hamlyn Design Award for Creativity
Joint Winner: Helen Hamlyn Design Award for Creativity
The research for Materials and Minds is taken from regular workshops held in two Imperial College NHS Trust Healthcare acute elderly wards. The designer has explored how a specific kind of holistic approach can be a valuable addition to current medical interventions and rehabilitation programmes in elderly healthcare environments. This creative research focuses closely on colour, materials and the sharing of undiscovered and re-discovered skills to enhance the participant’s mobility, brain exercise and memory, to deliver an overall sensory experience.
Judge’s comment:
“I was full of
admiration for Faith’s dedication to her work. This is a marvellous idea … and
if it could be developed as a package and delivered in other care facilities,
it could massively bring real benefit to people with dementia.”
