Rhiannon Wakefield

A kinetic textile that adapts and responds to the movement of the body

Rhiannon Wakefield is pursuing a licensing strategy to commercialise her textile invention, covered by UK patent application number GB1709109.1.  Rhiannon’s patent allows the creation of garments constructed in multi-layered and multi-faceted fabric.

Rhiannon is exploring human interaction with clothing and motion. Body movement is integral to the aesthetic of the garment and the full experience of the piece is only realised when worn. Rhiannon’s items are fully personal to the wearer and are a completely new clothing experience.

These garments boast insulating, waterproof and protective properties and allows wearers to move freely in thick fabrics that would otherwise hinder them. They have numerous applications and can be used in fashion, high performance sportswear, vehicle interiors, medicine, soft furnishings and accessories.

Rhiannon Wakefield began working on this project in 2017 whilst studying for her Masters in Fashion Menswear at the Royal College of Art.
