InnovationRCA is the Royal College of Art’s centre for intellectual property commercialisation and entrepreneurship. Our mission is to strengthen the culture of design innovation and entrepreneurialism at the Royal College of Art.
InnovationRCA focuses on patenting commercial intellectual property created at the College by students or staff and provides start-up incubation and acceleration programmes and commercialisation support, transforming compelling ideas into successful UK businesses and licenses. To date it has enabled the creation of 50 start-up and spin-out companies that have created over 600 UK-based jobs.

Our collaboration with industry challenges traditional business practices and brings design-led, human-centred approaches to help our partners to develop new products, services and experiences.
The RCA brings its unique cross-disciplinary expertise in world-leading research and design-driven technological innovation to businesses addressing global challenges. We work across disciplines, sectors and contexts, exploring how art, design and creativity converge with engineering, medicine and social sciences, to address global challenges and improve people’s lives. We have an impressive track record in industry collaboration through joint research, studio projects, academic consultancy, innovation education and public engagement programmes. Our academic experts work with small businesses, multinational corporations, government institutions and not-for-profit organisations.

Custom Executive Education for Business
The RCA has a history of delivering customised senior-level education programmes for business, government and the public sector. Courses are delivered locally at our London campus or at participating organisations. Previous courses have been delivered in Finland, Saudi Arabia, Norway, Hong Kong, the Netherlands, China and Mexico, for clients including Bertelsmann, Samsung, Fujitsu, Visa and TCS Consultants.
In consultation with companies, our selected RCA experts develop short, custom workshops designed to address specific business challenges through the use of practical tools, with reference to real-world projects, experiences and case studies, generating and prototyping ideas rapidly through a ‘hackathon’ format.
