Thanks to All Stewarts RCA Secret 2018 Supporters
Royal College of Art Vice-Chancellor Dr Paul Thompson today wrote to thank all supporters of the College's annual fundraising exhibition, Stewarts RCA Secret.
The letter reads:
Dear supporters,
I am writing to say thank you all so much for making Stewarts RCA Secret such a fantastic success again this year.
First and foremost, I would like to thank the artists, designers, alumni, friends and students who so generously donate their postcard-sized artworks to this exhibition. The breadth of work is outstanding, created in a variety of mediums.
I would also like to thank everyone who bought postcards. The funds raised go directly to the RCA Fund which provides opportunities to the emerging artists and designers of the future who – as students – are often stretched to their limits financially. This year I heard from some of the students (now graduates) who were able to complete their studies at the RCA thanks to financial alleviation provided by the RCA Fund. This included a painter and single parent who needed to meet family commitments while studying, and an animator who was hospitalised with a life-limiting autoimmune illness during their time at the College.
There has been a real sense of joy throughout this event – from celebrations with dancing at the Artist Party, to feelings of anticipation and excitement across the weekend as our dedicated supporters (who had often waited patiently huddled under umbrellas) got their first glimpse of this varied exhibition for their pick of the postcards. There is more excitement to come as the artist names will be revealed on Thursday this week.
Thank you to everyone once again – including our talented curators, Janice Li (MA History of Design, 2018), and Anna Dufour Montuori (MA Curating Contemporary Art, 2018), Development & Alumni Relations for overseeing the whole event, Buildings & Estates and Security teams for keeping us safe while bringing a jovial atmosphere, and our Student Support team for always being there for our students.
