Show 2017 will present contemporary art and design by the next generation of artists, designers and makers to graduate from the RCA. Visitors will discover the best in emerging research and practice, formal advancements and new modes of expression from the RCA’s MA, MPhil and PhD students.
From 25 June to 2 July, the College will open its doors in Kensington and Battersea to showcase the work of its graduating students. Building on the momentum of last year, the Fashion Show will take place in an off-site location in Shoreditch, and for the first time Architecture and Interior Design students will be exhibiting away from the College, in Vauxhall.
Innovative projects from all six programmes in the School of Design – Design Products, Global Innovation Design, Innovation Design Engineering, Service Design and Vehicle Design – will be exhibited at Kensington, offering visitors the opportunity to discover graduating students’ entrepreneurial energy as they produce leading-edge products with real-world impacts.
Graduating Animation, Information Experience Design and Visual Communication students will present multidisciplinary, experimental and experiential projects in Kensington, offering insights into the rigorous, informed and critical thinking that underpins the School of Communication. Equally, graduating Critical Writing in Art & Design and V&A/RCA History of Design students from the School of Humanities will be presenting thought-provoking, in-depth, independent research projects that distinguish writing and research as practices in their own rights.
A creative restlessness defines graduate work from the Textiles programme, which will be on display in Kensington, exploring new materials, ways of making and experiencing our man-made world. Ceramics & Glass and Jewellery & Metal are exhibiting in Battersea, showcasing the results of experiments with materials and investigations into the layered relationships we have with and through material objects.
In Battersea, work from Painting, Print, Photography, Sculpture and for the first time the Contemporary Art Practice students will be exhibited.
