Royal College of Art launches first Human-Centred Design for Intelligent Mobility short course

The Royal College of Art’s (RCA) Intelligent Mobility Design Centre (IMDC) has launched the world’s first short course in Human-Centred Design for Intelligent Mobility.

The ground-breaking online programme from 9–11 March 2022 explores human-centred design principles for future vehicle and mobility services, building on decades of the RCA’s world-leading teaching and research in collaboration with key players from the automobile industry, transport operation and city planning

Making available for the first time to external organisations the IMDC’s SAFE human-centred design toolkits, the course is designed to help vehicle designers, transport planners, and other mobility researchers and innovators rethink the most pressing issues around the future of mobility including efficiency, sustainability and inclusivity from the perspective of both individuals and stakeholders.

The course covers key questions and techniques for the new mobility landscape including:

  • How to make mobility simple and adaptable
  • Designing familiar easily learnt experiences for users of new mobility systems
  • Embracing and embedding inclusive design for all mobility users from day one
  • Practical post-course use and application of the SAFE human-centred design toolkit in participants’ own organisations

The course is led by Dr. Jiayu Wu, Reader in Intelligent Mobility Design, with speakers including Professor Dale Harrow, Director of the IMDC and the world renowned Intelligent Mobility MA Programme and from key academic and industry partners.

SAIC Design commented on the RCA’s Intelligent Mobility course: ‘RCA’s Intelligent Mobility quickly captured the changes such as user experience, autonomous driving, electrification, rapid urbanisation and urban planning strategy as well as facing the challenges with excellent design vision and professional research. From Vehicle Design to Intelligent Mobility, it is not only about the name, RCA’s purpose is always nurturing the pioneers for the industry.’

The RCA short course starts on 9 March 2022. Places are limited, book your place now.
