Forbes: RCA Intelligent Mobility and Fashion Programmes Rethink Urban Mobility with Porsche
An RCA design competition with Porsche asked RCA Intelligent Mobility, Fashion Menswear and Fashion Womenswear students to imagine the future of urban mobility. From ride sharing to new ways of hiring cars, scooters, or bikes – innovative developments are rapidly changing urban travel. The three-month brief challenged students to envision future products and exclusive services that fuse fashion and functionality to seamlessly manage the last mile of their journey in London.
One outcome was a stylish and practical waterproof cape that can fold into the strap of a cross-body bag. Inspired by origami and the work of the Japanese designer Issey Miyake the winning design 'Blossorigami' by Yunfei Ma, Ting Zheng, Xiaoyang Zhao and Erica So, impressed the judges with its simplicity, functionality, stylishness and ease of manufacture.
‘It is the knowledge, expertise and creativity of future generations that will determine mobility needs in the years ahead,’ said Henning Rieseler the manager of Studio F.A. Porsche, the German carmaker’s Berlin lifestyle agency. ‘This is what it is about – that we see visions for the future. We have seen some great results which will help us as a company. It has been very inspirational.’
