The New York Times: RCA Alumni at London Fashion Week Men's

From luxury and sustainable streetwear to redefinitions of masculinity – the collections of RCA Alumni at London Fashion Week Men’s (LFWM) have made a strong impression with the Fashion press.

The New York Times's round-up of LFWM highlighted designs by Liam Hodges (MA Fashion Menswear, 2013), Christopher Raeburn (MA Fashion Womenswear, 2006) and Margot Vaaderpass (MA Fashion Womenswear, 2017). The article describes Hodges as ‘a London men’s wear favorite, whose kaleidoscopic collection of tracksuits and T-shirts was inspired by the growing pains of “modern day cyborgs,” touching on ideas around evolving online and offline identities.' Vaaderpass created a roll-neck knitwear from recycled yarn for Raeburn's collection, which featured typhoon suits, oversize khaki parkas and patchwork tracksuits in new and innovative materials.

Bianca Saunders (MA Fashion Menswear, 2017) and Saul Nash (MA Fashion Menswear, 2018) were included in an article in Dazed about how the importance of personal heritage to the newest LFWM designers. Nash’s collection is also featured by The Upcoming and i-D who describe his collection as ‘a poetic musing on what luxury streetwear really is’ stating that he ‘certainly has his finger on the pulse on what’s happening in London right now.’

Saunders’s collection is also featured on HungerVogueThe UpcomingWWD. In Hunger his collection is described as delving ‘deep into what it means to be a British West-Indian in London today, drawing on her own cultural heritage’ and challenging ‘hyper-masculinity by offering feminine nuances’.

Another recent graduate highlighted in press coverage is Per Götesson (MA Fashion Menswear, 2016) whose show was reviewed in HeroWallpaper*,VogueWWD and i-DHero highlight his ‘incredible bomber jackets’ and Wallpaper sum up his collection as ‘a masculinity unbridled and unfurled in twisted jersey T-shirts and inside out denim jackets with their sleeves cut away’.
