Erica Scourti: Spill Sections
22 February 2018 to 18 April 2018 | Saturday 2–5pm
StudioRCA, Unit F1, 1 Riverlight Quay, Nine Elms Lane, London SW8 5AU
A- - -Z presents Erica Scourti’s installation at StudioRCA titled Spill Sections, comprising new works communicated through paper, video and performance. Spill Sections takes stock of the artist’s life and body of work, using vocal and visual recognition technology to ingest, process and partially re-stitch an archive of personal documents and auto-subtitled public performance videos.
Grounded in Scourti’s recent research into somatization as a bodily manifestation of ‘speech without consent’, it explores acts of speaking through a loose knot of human and non-human others – past and current selves necessarily intertwined with friends, lovers, exes, frenemies and colleagues as well as technological interfaces and devices.
Erica Scourti was born in Athens, Greece and is now based in London and Athens. Her work draws on personal experience to explore life, labour, gender and love in an algorithmic age and has been shown internationally at spaces such as the Wellcome Collection and Kunsthalle Wien.
Erica Scourti is also the lecturer for the instalment of the Arts & Humanities Talks series on the 7 March.
StudioRCA at Riverlight is run by the Royal College of Art as a test-bed and exhibition space for collaborating curators and curatorial agencies to engage with public audiences. It is currently programmed and curated by A- - -Z.
