    Research Associate

  • Robert Thorpe is a experiential product designer and researcher. He completed his Post-Graduate degree in Information Experience Design at the Royal College of Art in 2017. His practice is built around future technologies and their incorporation into spaces, and he has built interiors, event spaces and gallery exhibitions in London and in Europe. Robert has also developed a portfolio of his own smart-tech furniture, which is focused on the needs of young people living in shared housing.

  • Biography

  • Robert completed a BA in Design from Goldsmiths University in 2015, which started his fascination with the emotional relationship between objects and the experiences that we have with them. This grew into development of full-scale sensory experiences while at the RCA, at which point he won the 2016 Absolut exhibition prize to showcase an immersive music experience at Sonar music festival in Barcelona. His professional experience includes projects with Midnight Commercial Design (USA), Fabrica Design (Italy), Christoffe Rousselle Architects (France). Young & Rubicam (South Africa) and Duffy & Partners Design (USA). Robert’s interests are how technology can shape our emotional reaction to objects around us, and what will demand our attention on an interruptive basis in the future.
