  • Kay Sandford-Beal is Operations Director and leads on all the operational, financial, personnel and contractual aspects of the Helen Hamlyn Centre for Design.

  • Biography

  • Kay holds a BA (Hons) in French and Russian from Bristol University and a Postgraduate Diploma in Decorative Arts from the University of Glasgow. She is CIPD qualified, holding the Level 7 Advanced Diploma in Human Resource Management. Kay is also a CELTA qualified teacher. After graduating, Kay began her career within the Public Relations section of the British Museum and then moved on to business management roles at Bonhams Auctioneers.

    After a career break teaching Business English in Prague in 2003, she returned to London, joining Antenna Audio as Client Services Manager, leading on the implementation of interpretative audio and multimedia tours to clients including Historic Royal Palaces, the British Library, the National Trust and Tate Modern.

    Kay then became Head of Development Operations at Tate, with responsibility for financial planning, database development, donor relations and donor research before joining the Royal College of Art in 2008 where she is responsible for managing the financial, operational and contractual aspects of the Helen Hamlyn Centre for Design. Kay also directs the Helen Hamlyn Design Award Programme and is account manager for the Research Associates Programme.
