Ian Higgins is a British interior designer who has spent the majority of his professional career teaching at universities in the UK and abroad. Ian was appointed Senior Tutor for the Royal College of Art’s new MA Interior Design programme in Autumn 2013.
Ian trained as an interior designer at Trent Polytechnic, Nottingham. He practiced as a designer working in retail design and architectural refurbishment before embarking on an academic career. He has taught the subject for over 20 years as senior lecturer at Nottingham Trent University and as course director at Kingston University, London. He has lectured, taught, examined and consulted on interior design education at institutions in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, China, Japan, Malaysia and South Africa. He is a past Chairman of 'Interior Educators' (the subject group for interior design teachers in the UK) and was Education Spokesperson for the Interiors Group of the Chartered Society of Designers.Show more
Ian's most recent book, Spatial Strategies for Interior Design, which concerns space planning for interior designers, was published by Laurence King in 2015.
