  • Birgit Marie Schmidt is a Visiting Lecturer on the Jewellery & Metal programme within the School of Arts & Humanities at the Royal College of Art. 

  • Biography

  • Birgit Marie Schmidt received her MA in Architecture at the University of Applied Art in Vienna, Masterclass of Zaha Hadid, in 2008. Soon after she moved to London to study jewellery at the Royal College of Art, where she received her second MA through the Jewellery & Metal programme, graduating in 2011.

    Due to her background in architectural digital design she was invited back to teach at the RCA where she initiated ‘Thinking Digital’, a workshop series focusing on challenging the ground between digital and analogue working techniques. She currently lectures in the more commercial aspects of the jewellery industry to help prepare the students to successfully start their own business.

  • In 2011 Birgit Marie Schmidt co-founded the independent jewellery brand SMITH/GREY in London, supported by FuelRCA’s mentoring programme. The brand’s designs quickly captured the interest of the press and were published in various publications such as Harper’s Bazaar, Vogue and The New York Times. The seasonal collections are stocked by some of the most acclaimed concepts stores internationally.
