Director of IT, Library & Technical Services & Chief Information Officer
Directing a division of more than 100 staff, Amanda leads on the development of strategies and investment plans for each of the main ILTS service areas (Library, Technical Services, IT Services), working closely with all four Schools, the Research Office and other teams across the College to meet the RCA’s core strategic aims of delivering MA programmes, research, and industry-facing knowledge exchange and innovation.
Before joining the RCA in 2014, Amanda Spencer spent 8 years at the National Archives in Kew, and was responsible for a range of technology-based services to government, the public, and to the organisation’s staff. These included IT services for corporate users and onsite visitors at Kew as well as managing and developing the UK Government Website Archive, which attracts over a billion visitors every month.Show more
Dr Spencer also, through her roles at the Archives, contributed to and influenced the technology strategy of the organisation as well as the direction of research projects and external funding bids submitted by The National Archives.
Consultancy has included advising on the Globe Theatre’s Library and Archives project, which was established to develop a proposal for the creation and implementation of a new, dedicated Library and Archives Centre at Bankside.
An experienced leader and manager in a wide variety of different contexts and settings, Dr Spencer is also a historian; her PhD from the University of Sheffield examined aspects of the Spanish Civil War.
