Exploring the Museum Collection
Ignite! is a collaborative project with the RCA’s Research Department. It offers opportunities to MPhil and PhD students to extend and disseminate their research practice through participatory projects and relationships with other institutions such as galleries and museums.
Azadeh Fatehrad viewed her Ignite! project as an active collaboration with students from Grey Coat Hospital. Over three sessions, at school and at the V&A museum, the project explored narratives in photography and the complex relationship between text and image. Azadeh used a tile panel piece called ‘The Picnic’ in the Islamic gallery of the museum as the starting point for a series of activities in which the students explored aspects of contemporary art practice, particularly photography, such as: the value of text in a photograph, the evaluation of a story in combination with image, and the multiple meanings that an image can produce.
