Open Days

Open Days are held to enable applicants to visit the College and meet staff and students. The final Open Day of 2015 will be held during the annual graduate Show, on 1 July, and staff and current students will be on hand to answer any questions you may have before applying. We will also be advising on PSS scheme eligibility and some Schools will also be hosting portfolio surgeries. Please contact the relevant School if you would like to attend with your portfolio (see details below).

School of Fine Art

Painting, Photography, Printmaking and Sculpture; Moving Image and Performance Pathways

12–9pm, Dyson Building, Battersea 

2pm Tour of the Fine Art buildings and Show led by Performance Pathway Leader, Professor Nigel Rolfe, and graduating Fine Art students.
Meet in the ground floor Dyson foyer (by the Hester Road entrance)

4pm Tour of the Fine Art buildings and Show led by Head of Sculpture, Jordan Baseman, and graduating Fine Art students.
Meet in the ground floor Dyson foyer (by the Hester Road entrance)

6pm Introduction to the School by the Dean of Fine Art, Professor Juan Cruz, including the School philosophy, curriculum, and how to apply. This will be followed by an informal Q&A session with Heads of Programme, Pathway Leaders and graduating students. Visitors will have the opportunity to discuss academic and pastoral issues related to studying a Fine Art MA or Research degree.
Gorvy Lecture Theatre, first floor, Dyson Building

7pm Tour of the Fine Art buildings and Show led by Professor Juan Cruz, and graduating Fine Art students.
Meet in the first floor Dyson foyer (outside the Gorvy Lecture Theatre) 

From 7:15pm Performances in the Show spaces from graduating Performance Pathway students: Rosana Antoli, Karolina Magnusson-Murray, Lou-Atessa Marcellin, Girolamo Marri and Leon Platt.

Graduating students from the School of Fine Art will be available throughout the day around the Show to talk about their work and their experience of studying at the RCA.

All tours will last around one hour and are open to visitors considering applying to any of the four Fine Art programmes and two pathways.

School of Humanities

Critical & Historical Studies, Critical Writing in Art & Design, Curating Contemporary Art and V&A/RCA History of Design

3pm – 4pm Student talks in the Humanities exhibition space, followed by tea in the Humanities seminar room, with a chance to talk to tutors and look at course materials and publications.

School of Material

Jewellery & Metal

3pm and 5pm, Woo Building, Battersea
Tour of new Jewellery & Metal studios at the Woo Building. The Head of Programme, Professor Hans Stofer, will talk about the programme's philosophy, its curriculum, what graduates go on to do, what an application folio needs to include and the application procedure. In addition open day visitors will have an opportunity to talk to staff about academic and pastoral issues related to studying at MA or for Research degrees. Graduating students from Jewellery & Metal will be available at the Show to talk about their work and their experience of studying at the RCA.  

7pm, Woo Building, Battersea
There will be a short introduction to the course and opportunity to talk informally with graduating Jewellery & Metal students.    

Ceramics & Glass

5pm, Woo Building, Battersea
Guided tour of the Show and of the new Ceramics & Glass workshops in Woo. This will be led by Professor Martin Smith, the Head of Programme, who will talk about the programme philosophy, its curriculum, what graduates go on to do and what an application folio needs to include and the application procedure. In addition open day visitors will have an opportunity to talk to staff about academic and pastoral issues related to studying at MA or for Research degrees. Graduating students from Ceramics & Glass will be available in the Show to talk about their work and their experience of studying at the RCA.

Textiles

3–6pm, Darwin Building, Kensington

3pm Arrive at RCA

3.30pm Welcome and short presentation by Professor Clare Johnston, Head of Textiles, at the entrance to the Textiles Show (Royal Albert Hall entrance)

3.45pm Visit the Show and meet graduating students

4.30pm Tour of the workshops and studio with first-year students, and the chance to meet technical and academic staff

5–6pm Portfolio surgeries in the Fashion & Textiles showroom. Places are strictly limited and so visitors need to email textiles@rca.ac.uk to book an appointment.
