Remembering Birgitta
This project is an investigation into the ways memories are evoked and mediated by the physical spaces we inhabit. As a filmmaker I am motivated by the possibilities of the medium to construct and reflect remembered experiences that connect us to ourselves and to each other.Â
My grandmother, Birgitta, now suffers from Alzheimer's Disease and her own memories are rapidly disappearing, altering her personality and putting many of her life experiences beyond conscious reach. How we remember her has become an essential way to maintain her as a presence in our thoughts. Through interviews with my mother I examine her experience of how memory and space is connected. I investigate and document Birgitta's condition, the absences and presences of a personality, using space as a metaphor for memory.

My work explores the intimacy and awkwardness of relationships negotiated through space. Reflecting on past and present relationships and how we experience our physical surroundings, I investigate the link between memory and space.
My final project is an investigation into the ways memories are evoked and mediated by the physical spaces we inhabit. As a filmmaker, I am motivated by the possibilities of the medium to construct and reflect remembered experiences that connect us to ourselves and to each other.
