In my current practice I am exploring tipping points, thresholds and edges. I am particularly interested in capturing a sense of loss that I believe is present at the point of transition, when clay vitrifies into ceramics, in the dark behind the closed doors of a kiln. By utilising the pyroplasticity of porcelain – where the clay body sags, warps or bends under its own weight at high temperature – I reveal the playful tension present at this moment of metamorphosis. Where an object loses its order and momentarily gives way to chaos, movement and chance.
