MA work

MA work

Disenfranchised young people lack self-esteem and motivation; engaging them with the process of making can give them the confidence to go further.

Faced with high unemployment, difficulties at school and jobs calling for high levels of qualification, vulnerable young people give up on both finding work and continuing education. Making a skateboard to a professional standard proves their ability to themselves and others, and suggests a role for them in their community.

Developed with young people in the Ladbroke Grove area of London, the distinctive boards are made using a portable set of tooling and with the help and support of a mentor.
