A Comprehensive Study of the Role of a Contemporary Designer in Relation to their Work and their Audience.

This work speaks about the discipline of design and specifically about the role of the contemporary designer in relation to their work and their audience, seen from a number of different view points. The text considers the role of the designer with the intention to portray their most essential ingredients and responsibilities inside the studio where the design process happens and outside of the studio where the designer and their work face a multifaceted audience.

The conclusion summarises the role of the designer, focusing on listing their key responsibilities in relation to the confirmed scope of influence a designer potentially has. It also identifies the problems the role faces, which include the dilution of the design process by the emerging possibilities that expand the designer's role. The solutions for the future are to protect and focus the quality of the design process and by that emphasise and promote good design.

  • I am a Czech designer and creative director working across Europe in collaboration with brands and craftsmen to produce products, furniture, identity and spaces. My work is based on 1:1 modelling process in material and a good balance of theory and hands-on making. I seek private clients, craftsmen and producing brands and I often collaborate with other designers on various projects.
