Polyculture

Polycultures

The work I have developed throughout the last two years has seen me re-evaluate the memory of my 'places' and relationships to them in the present. This work uses reflection and digital collage that have in a way recorded the manner in which I've subconsciously valued each of these familiar sites. They spliced then resynthesised to make somewhere new.

Revisiting paths and locations from my youth to adulthood, I've documented via photography, sound (verbal commentary) and object collection; each of them providing alternative methods of responding to my vague perceptions of the past I've attempted tp consolidate my memory of these sentimental sites.

The images don't read as something quite from reality, as they aren't the same places as they once were.

  • My work responds to the chaos and tension between natural patterns and urban spaces drifting between their interlinking paths. My investigations look into memory, environment and non-reality.

Using the idea of the multiple to represent the many ways in which the responses to my history have changed as opposed to staying ridged and separated. The core imagery at present in my practice become planes of distortions and secret worlds bringing phantasmical hope with threads of uncertainty. They often match the bitter sweet nature of the sites in relation to myself.
