HC Machine

An electric coffee maker machine as convenient as a basic Nespresso device without using capsules and creating a trustworthy and honest experience. For many people, coffee pods looks like the easiest and simplest way of having professional coffee in the comfort of home/work. Nevertheless, this system turns out to be more expensive than buying loose coffee without even touching the fact that these single-serve coffee containers are in general not easily recyclable. The coffee machine is as convenient and compact as a capsule-based one, like a basic Nespresso, but instead of using any coffee capsule the coffee loading is made through a spoon that works at the same time as a filter. This spoon+filter suppress the single-serve coffee pods and avoids the collection of used pods inside the machine; the spoon can be cleaned as the funnel of the traditional Italian cafetière “mock pot” just under the water sink.

Finally the coffee making experience is enhanced and delivered through tactile and audible feedback due to the chosen materials and mechanisms; a proposal inspired in the honest experience that an Italian "mokka" offers.

  • What motivates me during the project development is the process in which a design is created through the continuous exploration and discovery of all the elements that influence its creation, from the initial rough sketch to the study of the production process.

Through my designs, I seek to evoke feelings and emotions based on the materials, textures, colours and compositions I bring together.

The methodology which guides my work begins at the semantic level with the words associated with the initial project brief which considers shape generation or design research.

Following this early exploration, the context study provides the constraints and opportunities for the design (gestures, aesthetics, culture and history). Finally, different types of manufacturing processes are selected and tested to define the new creation.
