The concept of desire, especially the world of luxury is an interesting one. This is a realm of beautiful things, expensive materials and craftsmanship. But our world seems to reveal clues leading us beyond the realm of beautiful things, beyond our conventional understanding of sense and perception. There is an equal desire for what has been named as, 'the flux of things in their perpetual becoming'. For painters during the Renaissance, allegory and symbol were used to evoke emotion and extend our perceptions, giving us glimpses of other worlds beyond materiality. As these contrasting desires collide - these visual techniques become ever more important as a method of deciphering what words find difficult to describe.
