Personal Politics

Menswear designer and RCA graduate Bianca Saunders will be exhibiting a multimedia examination of her new collection at Miranda London. Personal Politics explores themes of black masculinity, displaying Bianca Saunders’ research on the topic. The exhibition will showcase her lookbook, shot by award-winning photographer Adama Jalloh and styled by PC Williams, and research films, as well as selling a zine detailing the development of her collection. There will also be a screening of the film Permission, made by Akinola Davies Jr, examining black masculinity with some of London’s most creative and critical minds.

  • During my time at the Royal College of Art I have developed great technical skills, which underpin an exploratory and experimental approach to design as a menswear designer.  As a result I was selected as a finalist to work on an individual basis with the tailors on 2016 Brioni project. I have grown greatly in confidence and this has been directly reflected in the quality of my design work.  I have now taken full ownership of my work and its conceptual basis and as a resulted in me having a very clear idea of what I wanted to achieve in my final year at the Royal College of Art. I commonly use performance as a research and presentation tool, and where I have developed a mature and realistic idea about how this approach could best be used to produce directional outputs. My work will be focussed on my personal journey surrounding identity and my family’s heritage and what that means in London today.  I started the course with some interesting but inchoate ideas and through sheer hard work and really listening to tutorial advice I have brought myself to be equipped now with a strong design development process which works well for me. I worked hard through out my second year of my masters building relationships with companies resulting in sponsorships from

Gutermann threads, Riri zips, Johnston of Eligin Cashmere.

I am confident, that will continue to carry my work through to a successful career of a fresh, fascinating and proven to be successful final collection at the RCA.
