Major Project: Workout or The Malady Lingers On
Never forget that you are more than you could ever imagine. Vitality in 2013. Polystyrene balls burst free from the internal cavity of a nylon cushion; friction draws them to black Lycra tights. Speckled inner thighs and junk food thoughts. Women wield baseball bats as they grimace behind protective plastic goggles. Suppression is Depression. Welcome to Tantrum Club.
'Workout or The Malady Lingers On' is a textual and visual exploration into the phenomenon of 'the girl' in recent past with excursions into the histories of feminism. Harnessing the fragment as a strategy of resistance, this project attempts to offer the reader a discursive site in the spirit of Roland Barthes' A Lovers Discourse and presents an embodied form of writing inspired by the work of Hélène Cixous, Kathy Acker and Chris Kraus.
