Researchers Play Key Role in Exploring the Future of Ageing for UK Government
Senior researchers from the Helen Hamlyn Centre for Design are playing a prominent role in a major Foresight initiative to map the future of ageing for policymakers in the UK, coordinated by the Government Office of Science.Â
Helen Hamlyn Professor of Design Jeremy Myerson is a member of the Lead Expert Group on the Foresight project, which is chaired by Professor Sarah Harper of Oxford University. Myerson is leading on the implications for the environment and infrastructure of an ageing population in the UK. In this context, housing has emerged as an important issue.
Meanwhile Professor Peter Buckle has authored a paper on workplace infrastructure, which examines the literature on the built environment and technology infrastructure to consider changes that will enable people to extend their working lives. His evidence review looks at the barriers faced by older workers in different sectors, how workplaces can overcome these and the fact that older workers are considered valuable employees because of their knowledge, skills and experience.
