    Textiles

  • The graduation work of 36 researchers, designers and artists of Textiles 2012 demonstrates the powerful, diverse and extraordinary possibilities of the textile discipline. By looking beyond what currently exists, these graduating students have explored and challenged methods and technologies to seek fresh ideas and solutions.

The RCA environment encourages students to transform their work by considering the future needs and desires of society. Through exploration and collaboration between other disciplines, students imagine, develop and test possible solutions.

These graduates have perfected and often re-invented textiles, adopting risky approaches and audacious experimentation. The surprising and ingenious results build their confidence and awareness, to enable them to take their practice and knowledge bravely into future diverse professions including Fashion, Interiors, Automotive and Technology.

Our two graduating researchers demonstrate the strength of our current research scholars and our commitment to Textile Research: milliner Kirsten Scott, PhD, has developed palm plaiting in Uganda, and Katam Al-Falou, MPhil, has produced innovations in protective textiles.

While the catalogue conveys some of the students exciting work, the Show offers the visitor a total sensorial experience.
