Critical Writing In Art & Design

  • This is the first year that students will graduate from the RCA’s newest MA programme, Critical Writing in Art & Design. It was created in 2010 in the belief that new ways of writing about contemporary art and design would be produced by postgraduate students if they were immersed in the life of the College. This year’s graduates have more than met our aims.

They have taken on challenging subjects and have developed imaginative formats for their writing. These include: architectural fictions; studies on the work of design and the time of fashion; an investigation into overlooked figures in the field of ‘art writing’; a history of Semiotext(e); new digital platforms for public art and education; travelogues of journeys to the Irish coast to discover contemporary art or to the Middle East to witness the construction of spectacular new museums; and many other original and exciting projects.

Dramatic changes in the way we encounter the written word are underway. We believe that our graduates have the insight and the skills to find audiences and readers for their inventive and imaginative ideas.
