My understanding of the relationship between artist and curator, as well as the representation of the artist within the ‘curated’ space, has developed vastly during my time on the MA programme and as Programme Coordinator at my host organisation, Cornerhouse in Manchester. My experiences thus far have emphasised how conversation and in turn mutual understanding instigates a balance in the representation of not only the artist within a curated space but also the institution and curator.


During my time at Cornerhouse I co-produced New Cartographies: Algeria – France – UK, an exhibition that brought together recent work by contemporary emerging and established artists from Algeria, France and the UK, and have programmed a series of events that question the reach of contemporary music within the arts. Events include, ‘Music, Video Art?’, a screening and Q&A that explored the trend of the music video as a creative vehicle. I have also recently been assisting in the distribution of Gillian Wearing’s first feature film, Self Made.


Outside of the MA programme, I have curated the exhibition Memoria Technica at The Nunnery, London, which focused on the use of primary memory and nostalgia within the gallery space and in the spectator’s consideration of exhibited works. I have also programmed a series of open forum, film and video events titled, ‘Video Is the Only Constant’ in London and more recently in Manchester for the Free For Arts Festival.
