I’m interested in the future sound of cities. It has long been dominated by mechanical noise yet currently coming to the market are electric cars that mimic the noise of combustion engines. Why should the sound of our streets be based on this old premise?


I am exploring an alternative approach by designing sound systems within each car that react to driving style, relationship to other road users, urban design and locality. Combined, these create an urban soundscape that is unique to the place and time. The roadside becomes a new context for sound – the city is the score.
