Humanity has, for the first time, become a city species; we are over 50% urban. Slums are where many of the rural poor, transitioning to city life, find their homes. The 1 billion living in squatter settlements worldwide is estimated to rise to 2 billion by 2030. This project, focusing on the slums of South Africa, has through human-centred design research and co-creation envisioned an enterprise situated within a township. It focuses on solving the issues of managing water within slum homes with no plumbing and limited space to improve hygiene, health and wellbeing.
