    Innovation Design Engineering

  • In Show RCA 2012 the Innovation Design Engineering (IDE) programme celebrates graduating projects from the joint double Masters run between the Royal College of Art and Imperial College London. We like to think that IDE will change your life and potentially thousands of others. It is a programme that takes applicants from a wide variety of backgrounds and through a mix of project and teaching experiences leads participants to a Master’s degree level of understanding and skill in design development and innovation.

It’s a double Masters, it’s demanding, it’s cutting-edge, complex, intense and unique. It’s a two-year experience where the accelerator pedal is flat on the floor from the first day: research, idea generation, building stuff, testing stuff, fantastic failures, rebuilding, project meetings… reflection, more project meetings… presentations… losing studio desks under prototyping materials… cash-flow problems, manufacturing nightmares, confusion, reflection, realisation… pulling it all together… and SUCCESS! The participants are commonly linked by intelligence, curiosity and a passionate belief in improvement through innovation. They won’t be told anything is impossible: they are the agents of future change, and they are going to make it happen.
