For me, design has always been an opportunity to fall in love with a strange culture, a foreign method or an unexplored lineage. The concept of our field, both as a paid professional career and as a potential outlet for self-actualisation, is miraculous. I feel that the calibre of my peers and tutors as well as the privilege of being accepted among them has instilled a desire to use every project as a chance to make an ethical design contribution.
My project aims to exponentially increase and redefine the ‘mobility’ a car provides, with the ultimate goal of creating a new completely mobile generational subculture. In the early 1900s, the introduction of the cheap motor car redefined people’s employment prospects, allowing them a vast new scope of possibilities. In a similar fashion, my concept brand will enable a young brave generation the possibility of a ‘fluid’ employment lifestyle. The project was inspired by Buckminster Fuller’s concept of a ‘comprehensive designer’ and Jack Kerouac’s writings on the Beat Generation.
