Sarah Cheang’s current research centres on two projects that explore histories of cross-cultural identity, fashion, the body and material culture. The first examines twentieth-century fashions for Chinese objects in the West. The second is a study of ethnic identity, body adornment and concepts of fashion. Her last book-length project was an edited collection on the cultural meanings of hair, Hair: Styling, Culture and Fashion (2008). She has two separate monographs in preparation: Sinophilia and Fashion and Ethnicity. Sarah is also part of a cross-disciplinary team of scholars exploring women’s perceptions of ageing and narratives of self through skincare.
