Nicky Coutts’ research centres on practices of appropriation. She is interested in how we navigate between ideas of fiction and the document. She has approached this in the past by considering how we are able to encounter the animal and the non-human. Much of her work also looks at the idea of place, site and location across disciplines. Recent writing includes a fictional travel story between postcard images for Parallax (2010) and an imaginary extension to a text by Walter Benjamin published as Thought Sequence (Berlin, Argobooks, 2012).
