The Menswear and Womenswear programmes welcome research proposals within the
disciplines of Womenswear, Menswear, Knitwear, Millinery, Accessories
& Footwear from designers with appropriate postgraduate experience
at Master's level, or equivalent professional experience. Research,
either by thesis or by project, into the fashion culture of style, the
meaning of neophilias, new techniques and technologies of fashion can
be part of the vibrant research culture.
Candidates considering a research degree should contact the Senior Tutor Research Dr Claire Pajaczkowska before 16 January 2013 in order to discuss the candidate's research proposal and arrange a preliminary interview,
which may be followed by a full application for consideration by the admissions panel. Interviews will take place in March and
April so that successful candidates are informed in May or June of the
offer of a place to start study in October.
The proposal should include:
- the description of the field of design research within which the project is original
- the specific quality of originality and innovation sought
- consideration of the method of research to be used and its place within the wider framework of research in design
- details of supervisory requirements
- details of resources to be used, including bibliography and technical or workshop sources
