Graduating students have explored an intriguing array of narratives, movements, digital materials, sounds and techniques to express their ideas. Moving between interventions with live-action, puppets, smudged charcoal, crisp graphics, digital clay and bright watercolour, the films emerge forming their own complete worlds, forcing the viewer to acknowledge the materiality of stuff.
Through ingenious means and skilful techniques, each student captures aspects of their response to their own environment. The invention of living porcelain inhabiting a young girl, fear of erasure, a personal letter to Hong Kong and obsessive compulsions are some of the ideas that can be found in this year’s stimulating collection of films.
