My background in East Asian, South-east Asian and Middle Eastern art history has informed and contributed to mycurrent curatorial practices in contemporary art. Complementing multidisciplinary art forms, history, theory and discourses, my work placement as the Inspire Curatorial Fellow at the Laing Art Gallery has provided me with a platform to explore areas that combine the contemporary with the modern and historical.


Working in the presence of a regional art gallery has not only challenged me to consider the curator’s interface with the public, but also to explore how to offer a contribution to the dialogue around contemporary art on a local, national and international platform.


My curatorial approach is sensitive and thoughtful to crucial ideas brought about by developing collaborative contextual and process-based working relationships. This approach focuses on making the ideas around an exhibition or project multi-layered to the extent that it is looked upon afresh or in a different way.


Informed by an awareness of historical and contemporary contexts, recently storytelling and narratives represent my current interests. This has been manifested through an experimental interdisciplinary collaborative performance event that takes risks and explores the bridging of art and audience. Working through interdisciplinary collaboration is a method that has allowed me to develop ideas and projects.
