Conservation is a future-focused activity, drawing on an understanding of the past and projecting this onto the uncertain future. Good conservation requires imagination, knowledge, skill and experience. Conservation research seeks out values that impinge on the material, cultural, historical and economic character of artefacts; no avenue is out of bounds. Within this arena students develop independent thought, question tradition and appreciate the ethics of their actions.
