As the car industry moves forward into the future, there is always a constant push to make vehicles safer, lighter and more efficient in their packaging. Today’s vehicles often have chassis and safety structures that are integral to the core of the vehicle and thus restrictive of design and packaging freedom. New technologies are going to play an ever-more important role in giving designers the freedom to make ideas become reality. My project Extrinsic aims to tackle these issues by taking inspiration from biomimicry to create a vehicle that uses its outer shell as its main chassis and safety structure.
