A fascination sparked by my father’s phobia of coffins — a fear that he has suffered since childhood — led me to re-read existentialist writings, research the perception of death in different cultures and visit funeral homes.
Drawing inspiration from such works as Koons’ Three Ball Total Equilibrium, Hirst’s The Physical Impossibility of Death in the Mind of Someone Living and Abramovic’s The Life and Death of Marina Abramovic, I came to realise that the subject of mortality is an often revisited issue throughout the times, as it is forever current.
