Olympic Cauldron: alumnus Thomas Heatherwick, who designed Britain’s Dandelion pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo has been chosen to design the Olympic Cauldron for the 2012 games in east London.

Olympic Torch: alumni Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby have been appointed to design the Torch that will enable 8,000 Torchbearers to carry the Olympic Flame around the UK during the 70-day Relay.

Olympic Park: In partnership with the ODA, the RCA ran a workshop with 50 students from various disciplines to designs gabion structures that will be used extensively through the Olympic Park and will become a key design characteristic in both Games and legacy.

The Clouds Bridge: 2010 graduates alumni Nazareno Crea and Oscar Bauer have incorporated an artwork mural on a new bridge built by the ODA on the outskirts of the Olympic Park. The designs of abstract yet figurative images of the clouds in the sky will help the bridge become an iconic social point in the everyday life of Stratford.
Watched by millions of spectators in venues and a global television audience, the enormous international appeal of the Games will be an unparalleled opportunity to showcase British design education to a worldwide audience.
