    Chantal Faust is an artist and writer who works with flatbed scanners. She is a graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts and The University of Melbourne, where she completed a PhD in 2008. Recent research projects have focused on the mechanics of vision in creating flatbed-scanner produced photography and the role of haptic affects in low-fi technologies. Her photographic, installation and video works have been exhibited in Australia, the UK and North America. Chantal Faust has been a tutor in Critical & Historical Studies at the RCA since September 2010.


    Biography

    Born in Melbourne, Australia, Chantal Faust relocated to London in 2010. Her background in photography, set-design and critical writing continues to influence her work. She was a lecturer in the department of Critical and Theoretical Studies, School of Art, Victorian College of the Arts, The University of Melbourne in Australia from 2003–10. Teaching at both graduate and postgraduate levels, Chantal was the coordinator of the Master of Visual Art theory programme and the college-wide Art Forum, a lecturer in the Bachelor of Fine Art critical and theoretical studies programmes and a supervisor of postgraduate students. Her graduate studies were completed in the department of Photography at the VCA in 2000 followed by an Honours degree (2001), Master of Fine Art by Research (2003) and PhD (2008). During this time she was the recipient of an Australian Postgraduate Award (2001–4) and a Melbourne Research Scholarship (2005–7). Chantal has externally examined at a number of art institutions in Australia and was a member of the Centre for Contemporary Photography exhibition advisory committee 2007–9. Her work has been exhibited in artist-run, public and commercial spaces and featured prominently in a recent survey of contemporary Australian photography at Heide Museum of Modern Art.
