Professor Miles Pennington joined the Royal College of Art in 2002 as a visiting tutor and became senior tutor of Innovation Design Engineering in 2007. He was appointed Head of Department and Professor of Innovation Design Engineering in 2009.

Miles Pennington studied Engineering at Exeter University and Industrial Design Engineering at the Royal College of Art, receiving his MDes in 1992. After graduating he worked for four years as a designer for Sekisui in Osaka, Japan, developing a wide range of products from kitchenware to prefabricated housing. He speaks Japanese and also has basic written skills in the language. In 1997 he returned to the UK and together with Charanjit Nandra established Design Stream to work with Japanese and European clients.
