Thanks to everyone who took part in this third Sustain Talks session of 2010/11. The discussion centred around this exploratory position: beginning with people or with nature, how can we create a system, be it economic, environmental or social, with which people really want to engage?

    Date: 8 December 2010
Chair: Joe Kerr, Head of Critical & Historical Studies at the RCA
Opening presentation: James Wignall (MA Architecture, 2010)

On the day that students protested against the rises in fees and Goverrnment cuts to funding of arts education, sustainable architect and biomimicry pioneer Michael Pawlyn, evangelist for corporate social and environmental responsibility John Elkington and author and green business guru John Grant rubbed heads together towards a model for a human future that co-exists well with the natural world.

    Sustain Talks:

Sustainability can fuel innovation, enhance creativity and drive business. The RCA offers a unique forum, opening up and exploring issues in a free-thinking, cross-disciplinary environment.

In 2010/11 Sustain will host a series of debates with leading thinkers and doers from across the art and design disciplines. They will inspire and challenge you to embrace and address sustainability in your work, providing a forum for honest discussions about the complexities and opportunities of sustainable practice in art and design.

The lectures will be filmed and posted here on the Sustain website, along with more information about Sustain at the RCA.
